Characters grapple with the emotional and sexual drama of sharing their hearts, as well as their beds. Couples who seek relationships with other lovers are the focus of this new reality series that follows married Los Angeles grad students Lindsey and Anthony as they reconnect with their ex-girlfriend Vanessa, who wants a formalized commitment to reenter their three-sided romance, and Kamala and Michael, San Diego residents in a ten-year marriage with a four-year-old son and a dozen lovers, who invite another couple, Jen and Tahl, to move in with them.

As this is a study of religion and the media, I will interview people responsible for the series where possible: Sister Wives, My Five Wives, and Polyamory: Married and Dating cast members, directors, production staff and people who receive the series: fans (whom I will reach from the TV shows' social media pages) and polygamy/polyamory advocacy organizations and their subscribers (members of mailing lists).

About This provocative reality series takes an inside look at non-monogamous, committed relationships that involve more than two people.

The tone of non-monogamy trend pieces in the news varies wildly depending on the outlet and the method of reporting, but in general there are a few broad consistencies.

The coverage seems to be relegated mostly to the arena of lifestyle columns and, after reading through dozens of stories about non-monogamy published in the past few years, I found that three basic stories kept being repeated.

But for those of us living in polyamorous families, it can be incredibly frustrating when people use those concepts of open marriage to make assumptions about the structure of our relationships.

Because we live in such a monogamy-centered society, it makes sense that many people can only conceive of non-monogamy in what ultimately still amounts to monogamous terms.

Younger people are approaching marriage and relationship structures as self-determined, flexible, and negotiable.
